Can’t Concentrate?

Can’t concentrate? Maybe you are more anxious than you know.

With the news filled with everything from fires in the Amazon to riots in Hong Kong, the world doesn’t feel stable and there doesn’t seem to be much we can do as individuals. It’s likely your employees feel the same level of generalized anxiety from the news, stressors at home, constant pings of messages, etc. Here are a few things you can do to maintain a culture under duress:

  1. Give people something they can react to. Break things down into bite-sized pieces. Keep it simple, direct and actionable.
  2. Give people a sense of control. Provide employees with three acceptable choices and let them decide among the three.
  3. Give people a sense of stability. Talk about what remains constant.
  4. Give people the gift of affiliation. Let them feel strongly a part of a team they know, trust and can influence directly.

What else are you doing to help your team cope during these times of extreme anxiety and uncertainty?
