Business acumen has emerged as a critical competency for communicators. But if you're a public relations, advertising or communication professional that didn't go to business school, how can you make sure you have the abilities and skills to evolve along with your role?
This Page Workshop adapted from the recently released book, “Business Acumen for Strategic Communicators,” will help your team members, or anyone else interested in learning more about business acumen in a communications context, become better equipped with business knowledge—from understanding C-Suites and boardrooms to reading financial statements and reports.
First, attendees will meet three CCOs who will share how they developed their business knowledge, including Stacey Tank, Chief Transformation & Corporate Affairs Officer at Heineken; Linda Rutherford, SVP & CCO of Southwest; and Valerie Waller, SVP & Chief Marketing & Communications Officer of the YMCA.
Then, our workshop hosts and co-authors of “Business Acumen,” Ron Culp, Director of the PRAD Graduate Program and Public Relations Consultant at DePaul University, and Matt Ragas, Associate Professor at DePaul University, will lead attendees through interactive activities related to business literacy that will prepare them to serve with success as strategic counselors to colleagues, clients, and business partners.
